Okuma Garden

It is wide lawn in residence ruins of Waseda University founder, Shigenobu Okuma and compromise between Japanese and European styles-type garden with pond.

We arrange Tsukiyama and pond for background. In 1922 after Shigenobu Okuma death, we were donated to Waseda University.

According to an article about the Okuma Garden published in a book called “Meien Gojisshu (fifty great gardens)” in 1910, the garden used to have a mountain, a valley, a pond, and a tower, with many winding paths. And if you went through the chrysanthemum garden behind the house and entered through the gate, there was a wide pebbled path with a roof of tangled thicket of oak and cedar trees going towards the forest, which looked like a small mountain.
